四德

The four nirvana virtues, or values, according to the Mahāyāna <Nirvana Sutra>:

(1) [lang id =1028]常德 permanence or eternity;

(2) [lang id =1028]樂德 joy;

(3) [lang id =1028]我德 personality or the soul;

(4) [lang id =1028]淨德 purity. These four important terms, while denied in the lower realms, are affirmed by the sutra in the transcendental, or nirvana-realm.

指大乘大般涅槃所具有的四種德， 即常、 樂、 我、 淨。 常者， 涅槃之體， 恆常不變， 沒有生滅； 樂者， 涅槃之體， 永遠寂滅、 安閒、 受用、 無絲毫的煩惱； 我者， 涅槃之體， 得大自在， 沒有絲毫的束縛； 淨者， 涅槃之體， 解脫一切的垢染， 非常清淨。
